How to make telescope at home?

Materials and Tools

Materials: achromatic lenses (at least two, one as an objective lens and one as an eyepiece), suitable material for the lens tube (paper tube, PVC pipe, etc.), glue or tape.

Tools: scissors, ruler.

Steps

1. Determine the lens parameters

- First of all, observe the parameters of the achromatic lens to know its focal length and other information. Usually the longer focal length is used as the objective lens and the shorter focal length is used as the eyepiece.

2. Make the lens tube

- According to the diameter of the lens and the length of the lens tube, choose a suitable paper tube or PVC tube. Cut the tube with scissors to the appropriate length to ensure that the tube will hold the lens and remain stable.

- A cover or stopper can be added to one end of the tube to prevent the lens from slipping off.

3. Mounting the Lens

- Carefully place the objective achromatic lens into one end of the longer barrel, either glued or taped, making sure that the center of the lens coincides with the center axis of the barrel.

- Similarly, mount the eyepiece achromatic lens on the shorter end of the barrel.

4. Adjusting the telescope

- Insert the eyepiece barrel into the objective lens barrel and adjust the focal length by adjusting the position of the eyepiece barrel so that distant objects can be clearly imaged.

- The position of the eyepiece tube can be continuously fine-tuned during use to obtain the best observation.

Yutai Optical Warm Tips

1. Place the lens carefully and gently during operation to avoid scratching or damage.

2. Ensure the stability of the lens barrel to avoid shaking during the use of the telescope, which may affect the observation effect.

3. The effect of homemade telescopes may not be as good as professional telescopes, and they are only used for fun and preliminary observation.
