What are the optical properties of MgF2?
Transmittance: high transmittance in the UV to IR wavelength (0.11-7 µm).
Refractive index: approx. 1.38 (at 587.6 nm).
Dispersion: low dispersion for wide band applications.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of MgF2 domes?
Advantages:
Wide band transmittance: high transmittance in the UV (0.11 µm) to IR (7 µm) wavelength.
Low refractive index: refractive index of approximately 1.38 (at 587.6 nm) for low reflection applications.
Weatherability: stable in humid environments, not susceptible to deliquescence.
Radiation resistance: high resistance to UV and X-rays.
Mechanical properties: high hardness, good abrasion resistance.

Disadvantages:
Higher cost: compared with some common optical materials, magnesium fluoride has a higher cost.
Difficult to process: specialized equipment and techniques are required.
