Applications of Zinc selenide (ZnSe)
1. Laser processing: zinc selenide lenses play an important role in the CO2 laser processing industry, including laser cutting, engraving, marking, drilling, and other laser systems. These lenses are capable of withstanding high power densities of laser light and have a strong, non-peeling, wipe-resistant surface coating.
2. Infrared optical systems: because zinc selenide has low absorption of infrared wavelengths and transmits visible light, it is the material of choice for infrared lenses, windows, output couplers, and beam expanders. Zinc selenide lenses are ideal for use as protective windows and optics in forward-looking infrared (FLIR) thermal imaging systems. They are also widely used for windows and lenses in medical and industrial thermal radiometers and infrared lens spectrometers.
3. Optical research and instrumentation: zinc selenide lenses are also used in scientific research and precision optical instrumentation, for example, where high transmittance and good optical properties are required.
Transmission range: 0.5-22 μm.
Applicable wavelengths: visible, near-infrared, mid-infrared and far-infrared wavelengths.
Refractive index: approx.2.4 (at 10 μm wavelength).
Characteristics: moderate refractive index, suitable for a wide range of optical designs.
Dispersion: low, suitable for wide band applications with low color aberration.
Hardness: low, easy to scratch, need to be coated with protective film.
Thermal conductivity: medium, general heat dissipation.
Coefficient of thermal expansion: high, average thermal stability
